New Zealand: New Short-term Work Policies
From the 27th April 2010, there will be two new immigration policies in New Zealand, which will allow elibible foreign nationals to work, receive on the job training, or seek employment in the country.To qualify under the Silver Fern Job Search Policy, appkicants must apply outside New Zealand and show evidence that they have liquid funds of at least US$2,983, or just over NZ$4,000. Those who are successful in getting the visa will be able to work for up to nine months in the country – anywhere, any type of position and any employer. There are certain caveats – the applicant must prove intent to work in New Zeland and have an IELTS6.5 English Language level. He or she must also hold the requisite number of points in terms of educational qualifications obtained. A medical report and police clearance is also required for any country the applicant has resided in for 5 or more years.
Once applicants have the Silver Fern, they can apply for the Practical Experience permit. Work permits issued undet this policy will be valid for 24 months, and the applicant must have an offer of at least 12 months skilled work.
Both these policies have limits of 300 applicants per year.
